Swiss turning: small parts, big precision
Swiss turning is the ideal process for small, long and slender turned parts that demand very tight tolerances. At G.M. Précision it is part of our CNC machining fleet to produce precision components in quantity, with the same quality from one lot to the next.
An AS9100D and ISO 9001:2015 certified shop, we make these parts for customers in aerospace, medical, transportation and industry.

Precision CNC Swiss turning

- The part is supported right next to the tool - On a Swiss-type lathe, the bar stock is guided close to the cut. The part deflects less, which holds tight tolerances even on long, thin parts.
- Complete machining in a single setup - Turning, drilling, milling and secondary operations can be done on the same machine, reducing handling and part-to-part variation.
- Ideal for production runs - Fed from bar stock, Swiss turning suits medium to high-volume runs of small, repeatable parts.
- Small precision parts - Shafts, pins, connectors, medical components and miniature parts: the process is designed for the small, precise part.
- Inspection and traceability - In-process measurements, CMM inspection when needed and material and lot traceability according to our AS9100D requirements.
- Machinable materials - Stainless steel, aluminum, brass, engineering plastics and other materials depending on the part. Contact us to validate your case.

Learn more about Swiss turning
What is Swiss turning?
It is a CNC turning process in which the bar stock feeds through a guide bushing, right next to the cutting tool. It is designed for small, long and precise parts.
How is it different from conventional CNC turning?
On a conventional lathe the part is held in a chuck and overhangs toward the tool. On a Swiss-type lathe it is supported near the cut, which limits deflection on slender parts.
What types of parts suit Swiss turning?
Small turned parts, often long and thin, with tight tolerances: shafts, pins, special screws, connectors, medical components and precision parts.
Is Swiss turning suitable for production runs?
Yes. Bar feeding and complete machining in one setup make it a very efficient process for recurring production.
Which materials can you machine?
Stainless steel, aluminum, brass, engineering plastics and other materials depending on the part. Send us your drawing to validate.
How do you control quality?
Through in-process measurements, CMM inspection when needed and an AS9100D and ISO 9001:2015 certified quality system.
What information do I need to provide for a quote?
Your drawing or 3D model, the material, critical tolerances, the quantity and the estimated annual volume.
